Mini Brands

If there is one thing fun about BJDs it’s getting them stuff that suits them. Clothes are quite easy, there are plenty of shops that carry them. Though 1/4th or MSD scale is a bit harder than 1/3th or SD scale in my experience. But if you want you can even make them yourself.

One thing I find particularly hard is to find suitable accessories. Sure, Aliexpress offers a plethora of miniatures. But mostly in 1/6th or 1/12 scale. Besides that it’s mostly luck to find something that matches scale (like the Nintendo Entertainment System keychain). And of course I can make some stuff myself out of polymer clay.

Then I found the Zuru Mini Brands collectibles. they come in a gashapon style ball. Each ball has five compartments and hold miniatures of popular brands. I don’t like mystery collectibles, I’d much rather pay a little more and get what I want. But what can you do, my curiosity got the best of me and I picked upba series 1 Mini Toy Brands ball.

It’s like a huge Kinder Suprise egg, sans the chocolate egg of course. They are quite expensive at €12,50 a piece and since it’s a gamble every time I probably won’t be getting a lot more

Part of the fun is the packaging. Remove two plastic wrappers and youbare presented with a large white ball. Pull the tab and it falls apart into five sections, each with their own seal. The the unpacking begins. I can see the appeal for kids (and I don’t envy the parents having to tell them no in the store…)

Over a period of a year I got two different balls. A Mini Brands Disney and a Mini Brands Toys. In both cases I didn’t feel the urge to buy more (yet I did buy a 2nd 🙂 They are fun accessories for a MSD size BJD, but in the emd the minis are not things I’m interested in. I think BJDs are avatars/personalities you can relate to and I don’t see Noa or the others as kids. So things like this are fun, but not something to collect for my dolls.

This brings up an interesting question, how do we relate to our dolls? But that’s something to ponder over and to write about in another post.

For now, here are the items I got from both balls.

Zuru Mini Toy Brands

As you can see the items from the first ball are aimed at children. Though I really like the miniature Zuru ball.

Zuru Mini Toy Disney

And here the contents of the Disney ball. I’m particularly charmed by the miniature Star Wars toys. It’s something I’m a fan of and I think Noa too 🙂 The fifth item fron this ball was a set if shelves. Those do not fit thebMSD scale.

So jah, that’s it for the Zuru mini brands. Fun, but not really suitable for my purposes. I think miniature keychains are a better option for me. Like the miniature NES I got a while ago.
